VIETNAM AND THE REPUBLIC OF CROATIA RELATIONS
Vietnam – Croatia relations
On July 1st 1994, the Socialist Republic of Vietnam announced its recognition and established diplomatic relations at ambassadorial level with the Republic of Croatia. Vietnam has appointed its Ambassador to Austria, concurrently to Croatia. The first ambassador presented credential on February 28th 2002. Croatia has appointed its ambassador to Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), concurrently to Vietnam. Croatia’s first ambassador presented credential in September 1996.
The Croatian Deputy Foreign Minister (December 1998) and Economic Minister (October 2001) paid visits to Vietnam.
Vietnam’s Deputy Foreign Minister visited Croatia in July 2001 and May 2007. The two sides have agreed to promote negotiations, signed treaties on Trade and Economic Cooperation; Investment Promotion; Double Taxation Avoidance, and Visa Exemption for Diplomatic and Official passport holders.
The bilateral two-way trade has mainly been performed through a third country. The 2006 trade turnover reached 31.4 million USD (Vietnam’s export accounting for 27 million USD), with a year-on-year increase of 40%.
