VIETNAM - GHANA RELATIONS


- Diplomatic relation establishment date: 25 May, 1976

- Delegation exchanges:

In March 2001, leaders of Song Hau Farm in Can Tho Province visited Ghana in search of market access.

From 10 to 14 September, 2002, a delegation led by Ghana’s Minister of Fisheries visited Vietnam. The two sides signed a “Memorandum of Understanding on bilateral co-operation in fisheries and rice development”

- Political ties:

Vietnam opened its Embassy in Accra on 5 November, 1965 and closed it in June 1966 after the coup d’etat overthrowing N’krumah in Ghana. Ghana also opened its Embassy in Hanoi on 11 November, 1965 and closed it in 1966. The relations between Vietnam and Ghana are now normal. Ghana wants Vietnam to share its experience in agriculture, especially in wet rice cultivation techniques. Ghana extended its commitment to supporting Vietnam’s accession into the ECOSOC on 31 October, 1996. The Vietnamese Government has consented to the Ghana Government opening its honorary consulate in Vietnam. However, the two countries have not yet found suitable personnel for the honorary consulate of Ghana.

- Trade ties: the bilateral trade turnover reached US $32 million in 2004, of which Vietnam’s export turnover made up US $31.2 million.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Ghana to Beijing is concurrently Ghana’s Ambassador to Vietnam, who presented his Letter of Credential on 20 November, 2003.
