Vietnam – Senegal Relations


- The two countries established diplomatic relations on 29th December 1969.
- Delegation exchange:
+ Vietnam side: Vice President Nguyen Thi Binh (1995), and Vice Prime Minister Nguyen Khanh (1996).
+ Senegal side: Agriculture Minister (in 1996 and 1999).
Vietnam established its embassy in Senegal in September 1973.
- The two countries have signed following agreements: Frame Agreement on economic, trade, cultural, scientific and technological cooperation (1995), Vietnam – FAO – Senegal Cooperation Agreement (1996). From 1997-2005, annually Vietnam assigned about 100 agricultural specialists to work in Senegal. Senegal highly appreciates the working effectiveness of these Vietnamese specialists.
- According to statistics of Ministry of Trade, the bilateral turn-over in 2006 reached 10,932,323 USD, of which Vietnam’s export value was 9,483,454 USD (mainly rice, peppercorn and electronic goods), and import value was 1,448,869 USD (mainly cotton).
Now, Vietnam's Ambassador to Algeria doubles as Ambassador to Senegal.
