Medical cooperation increases Vietnam-Angola ties


Hanoi (VNA) – The effective cooperation in the health sector will help boost the friendship and solidarity between Vietnam and Angola in the future.

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Gia Khiem made the statement while receiving a delegation from Angola ’s Health Ministry, led by Minister Anastacio Ruben Sicato, in Hanoi on April 8.

The Deputy PM said that Vietnam and Angola have enjoyed a good relationship, particularly in the exchange of medical experts.

For his part, Minister Sicato expressed his thanks to the Vietnamese government and people for their assistance to Angola over the past time.

He affirmed that Angola , in its national reconstruction, will continue strengthening cooperation with Vietnam , especially in the healthcare sector.
Since 1980, Vietnam has sent close to 4,000 medical experts to the African country. At present, there are some 250 Vietnamese experts working in 14 out of 18 Angolan provinces.

During the visit, the two countries’ health ministries agreed to prioritise five areas of cooperation, including pharmaceuticals, food safety, HIV/AIDS prevention, preventive medicine and traditional medicine.

The two sides also agreed to further cooperation in sending Vietnamese medical experts to Angola.
