PM pushes for stronger economic ties with Myanmar

VOV - Vietnam and Myanmar should boost their economic and investment ties to match their potential, said Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung while receiving Myanmar’s newly-accredited ambassador Khin Maung Soe in Hanoi on March 23.

Mr Dung pointed to the fact that bilateral trade exchange remains modest, standing at only US$108 million. He asked the ambassador work closely with Vietnamese ministries and relevant agencies to strengthen bilateral ties and facilitate investment in Myanmar by the Vietnam National Oil and Gas Group and the army-run mobile phone service provider Viettel.

He reiterated Vietnam’s consistent policy of increasing mutually beneficial cooperation with Myanmar, helping to transform ASEAN into a bloc of peace, friendship and development.

The ambassador affirmed that he will do his best to step up economic, trade and investment cooperation between Vietnam and Myanmar.
