Dung Quat economic zone attracts $500m

QUANG NGAI — For the first half of the year, Quang Ngai Province has licensed and approved 27 investment projects in the Dung Quat Economic Zone (DQEZ).
Tran Le Trung, head of the DQEZ’s management board, said the 27 projects have total registered capital of VND8.2 trillion (US$500 million).
Twelve of them, with total capital of VND1.55 trillion ($97.4 million), have been licensed.
The province has licensed so far 101 projects for the economic zone with total registered capital of $6.81 billion, and approved 60 projects with total registered capital of $3.27 billion.
In June, the output from industry, trading, and services sectors in the zone are estimated to be worth VND1 trillion.
About 350,000 tonnes of commodities are imported or exported through Dung Quat port.
The provincal budget has received VND213 billion ($832,000) from DQEZ.
The first workshop of Doosan Corp, which specialises in manufacturing equipment for heavy industry, will be put into operation in the third quarter of this year.
DQEZ’s management will have cleared 60ha of land for South Korean projects within the last six months.
Recently, many investors from Japan, Korea, Taiwan, India and Singapore are seeking to invest in the DQEZ. — VNS
