The Cà Ná Steel Complex, a joint-venture between Malaysia’s Lion Group and Việt Nam’s Shipping Industry Group, has so far been the largest foreign-invested project in Việt Nam.
Malaysian businesses have also invested in many other large-scale projects, including the construction of a university quarter in Hồ Chí Minh City, invested by Berjaya Land BHD with US $3.5 billion. In January 2008, Berjaya Land BHD was also licensed to invest in the US $930 million project on building the Việt Nam Finance Center in Hồ Chí Minh City.
The Malaysian Ambassador to Việt Nam, Mr. Ling Kim Eng, praised the investment environment in Việt Nam, revealing that Malaysian businesses are willing to invest in real estate, hospitals, hotels, banking and factories.
Late July, representatives from Malaysia’s Ministry of Industry and Foreign Trade and major groups visited Việt Nam to seek business opportunities.
Việt Nam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment’s Department for Foreign Investment says the Southeast Asian country has registered 37 projects worth US $14.8 billion, which account for 4.1% of the total foreign–invested projects and 26.4% of the total registered capital in Việt Nam.
Malaysia’s investment capital to Việt Nam jumped to US $7.9 billion in July this year from US $ 1.8 billion last year.
