Myanmar businesses study Vietnamese market

VOV - A business delegation from Myanmar held a working session with their partners in Ho Chi Minh City on February 25.

Phan The Hao, head of the HCM City representative office of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, highlighted significant milestones in Vietnam-Myanmar trade relations in recent years. The two countries’ trade turnover reached US$97.2 million in 2007, up 20 percent over the previous year. The figure increased to US$108.2 million in 2008, including US$32.6 million from Vietnamese exports to Myanmar, ranking 16th among the largest exporters in Myanmar.

The two countries have great potential for cooperation in the fields of agro-forestry, garments and textiles, electronics, electrical equipment, health care and consumer goods, he said.

Mr Hao also expressed his hope that the Trade Ministry of both countries would create better conditions for businesses to fully tap their potential and expand trade relations to enhance the development of bilateral ties.

Deputy Trade Minister of Myanmar, Brig-Gen.Aung Tun, who is also head of the business delegation, said that their current visit aims to seek market information and promote business cooperation between the two countries.
